Capturing Motion: A New Approach to Designing Personalized Golf Trophy through Accessible Swing Analysis

This research aims to redefine personalization in golf trophy design by incorporating the recipient's unique golf swing as a dynamic design element.Traditional trophy customization, often limited to static features like engraved names or photographs, lacks the ability to convey the physical and emotional nuances of an individual's achievement.To address this, the study introduces a motionbased personalization methodology that extracts the golfer's swing from video footage and transforms it into layered lines that visually capture the essence of the movement.The methodology, demonstrated through a case study centered on making a "Hole in One" trophy, progresses through four stages: collecting accessible video footage, isolating key frames, tracing the motion arc through layering, and fabricating the trophy using metal material.The findings of the research reveal four essential factors integral to the trophy's personalization: embodying the individual swing to ensure personal resonance; visualizing the personal experience to create a tangible connection; capturing motion to evoke the dynamism of the golf swing; and valuing persistence and practice, symbolized by the sequential swing arrangement.While the methodology is cost-effective, inclusive, and adaptable for other sports, it also acknowledges limitations, such as its small sample size and reliance on manual fabrication.Future research could address these gaps by developing standardized methods to assess the emotional impact of personalized designs and by exploring advanced manufacturing techniques to enhance efficiency in broader commercial contexts.
