931 Introduction: Mouthwash is a solution used to gargle and rinse the teeth surface. Also known as oral rinse, it is used to maintain oral hygiene. Ficus benghalensis, commonly known as Banyan is a species native to India and is the National tree. It begins its life as an epiphyte and grows to have aerial roots. Once the roots reach the ground, they form strong sturdy roots. Azadirachta Indica, commonly known as neem is native to the Indian subcontinent and is grown in tropical and semi-tropical regions. It has been used as a medicinal plant since ancient times and is a source of natural pesticides. Banyan has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties and is also used to prevent tooth decay and gum disease. Neem has antibacterial and antimalarial activity and can effectively help in the treatment of ginigival disorders especially in orthodontic patients. The main aim of the study is to prepare mouthwash based on these two plants and to check their antimicrobial and cytotoxic activity. Materials and Methods: The plants were collected and extract was prepared in the Blue lab, Saveetha Dental College. The antimicrobial and cytotoxic activity assays was conducted and the results were obtained and analysed. Results: The results were obtained and the graphs were generated. The antimicrobial study was done with Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans, E.faecalis and Candida albicans. The cytotoxic activity was conducted using brine shrimps dispersed in wells and were allowed to grow. The mouthwash was added to the wells and checked for cytotoxicity. Conclusion: From the above study, it is seen that the mouthwash preparation of Azadirachta indica and Ficus benghalensis has less cytotoxicity and a good antimicrobial effect. Hence it can be used as a therapeutic agent in the treatment of bacterial infections of the oral cavity and a prophylactic agent especially in patients with orthodontic appliance.
