Topical steroid withdrawal (TSW) is a condition gathering increasing traction among patients questioning the role and safety of topical corticosteroids (TCSs) in the treatment of atopic dermatitis and other inflammatory skin diseases. Also known as ‘topical steroid addiction’ and ‘red skin syndrome’, the aetiology of TSW is unclear but is generally recognized as the inappropriate frequent or prolonged use of moderate-to-high potency TCSs, including reactions occurring both during and after their cessation. We describe three adult patients diagnosed with TSW who were successfully treated with 3–5 mg kg–1 daily ciclosporin at a single centre between October 2023 and October 2024.
