Covering the Costs: Attitudes Toward Reproductive Health Funding Sources in the United States

This is an exploratory study that investigates whether gender, age, sexist attitudes, and knowledge of reproductive health can predict how Americans believe several reproductive health services (prenatal care, fertility treatment, birth control, abortion) should be funded (government funding, insurance funding, personal funding). One hundred thirty-nine participants completed an online survey. Key findings included that age and hostile sexism were particularly important in predicting people’s endorsement of funding sources for reproductive healthcare services. Additionally, knowledge of reproductive health was relatively low, suggesting a need for increased sex education opportunities in the United States. Implications for reproductive healthcare advocacy within the US political domain are discussed.
