Hodgkin lymphoma of the parotid gland: A case report with literature review

Classical Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) involving the parotid gland is an exceedingly rare form of extra-nodal lymphoma. This study presents a case of classical HL manifesting as a parotid mass. A 72-year-old male presented with a painless right parotid mass, night sweats, and weight loss. Initial evaluation suggested a malignant parotid mass with associated lymphadenopathy; however, fine needle aspiration yielded inconclusive results. Surgical excision confirmed classical HL through histopathology and immunohistochemistry. A review of HL and non-Hodgkin lymphoma in the parotid gland, including cases across a patient age range of 14 to 80 years, revealed that most patients presented with non-tender parotid swelling. Imaging demonstrated diverse features, including round masses and cystic lesions. Needle biopsies often yielded inconclusive results, with diagnosis confirmed after surgery. Treatment commonly involved parotidectomy, with generally favorable outcomes. Although rare, classical HL can manifest in the parotid gland. Early diagnosis and treatment are key for optimal patient outcomes.
