In this paper, major issues and solutions of a GaN based modified non-isolated integrated on-board charger (IOBC) using a low value zero sequence inductance of traction motor and an inverter for class A and B segment electric vehicles (EV’s) with dual power conversion stages are discussed. The major issues of cost and volume due to the presence of a high value of dc-link capacitor and an extra high current contactor in the IOBC are highlighted and feasible hardware and control solutions are proposed. Another major issue concerning the safety issue of a non-isolated IOBC due to the presence of ground leakage current above the permissible standard limit is also brought out and feasible hardware solutions are proposed. The solutions to the issues of the modified IOBC configuration are verified from suitable simulation and experimental results.
