Correlation Between Center of Pressure and the Berg Balance Scale in Stroke Patients Undergoing Robot-Assisted Rehabilitation Training

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of robot-assisted rehabilitation training for stroke patients, investigate the correlation between Center of Pressure (CoP) and the Berg Balance Scale (BBS), and establish reference points, such as the Functional Ambulation Category (FAC), to optimize balance and gait rehabilitation. Data from 50 stroke patients who completed 3 months of robot-assisted rehabilitation training were analyzed. Evaluation tools included the BBS and Zebris equipment to measure center of pressure. Comparisons of preand post- intervention BBS scores revealed significant improvements in both individual items and total scores. Notably, item 10 of the BBS showed substantial improvement, increasing from 1.9 ± 1.2 to 3.1 ± 1.0. Center of pressure measurements also indicated statistically significant changes across all three indicators. Correlation analysis identified a strong negative correlation between item 10 of the BBS and center of pressure. Simple regression analysis further revealed an explanatory power of 81%. Robot-assisted rehabilitation training positively influenced balance, postural stability, and gait in stroke patients. This study suggests that item 10 of the BBS could serve as a key reference point in robot-assisted rehabilitation, contributing to enhanced balance recovery and functional outcomes for patients with balance impairments. These findings highlight the potential for robot-assisted approaches to improve rehabilitation effectiveness in stroke recovery programs.
