Introduction
Résumé fourni par la source
Over 80% of the global population live in regions of the world at risk from one vector-borne disease, and more than half the world’s population live in areas where at least two different vector-borne diseases pose a threat to health. In the present book, a number of topics relevant for the control of mosquito vectors of disease are covered. In particular, novel techniques that have shown ‘proof of principle’ but which have yet to be used on a wide scale are written by experts in the field. A number of chapters explore the possibilities of improving health in general by reducing inequalities between people. This is, ultimately, the only way of achieving sustainable improvements to people’s lives. How to achieve this in the most ‘biodiversity-friendly’ way should be the goal of all scientists, including those involved in vector control. It is a thread that runs through much of this book.
