Background. Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) results in acute and chronic sequalae involving structural and functional impairments especially in children. This leads to significant disability, which affects child’s development and adaptive functions. Elderly patients and children have a high risk of developing long-term disability, which have no proven treatments. MLC901 (NeuroAiDTM II) is a combination of natural herbal formulations with origins from Traditional Chinese Medicine which has shown to be safe and aids in neurological recovery after brain injuries. Objective. There is an existing knowledge gap on the use of MLC901 for children as clinical trial consists of adult population. There is an increasing awareness of the needs and effort behind providing access to safe and accurate dosage forms of MLC901 in children. Hence, we present three case reports to describe the potential role of MLC901 in young children with severe TBI. Methodology. Clinical cases of three children with severe TBI were reviewed. All three patients were given MLC901 as an add-on to their standard treatment. They received one capsule (400 mg) of MLC901 3x a day which corresponds to half of the recommended dose for adults. They were treated for 6 months, and subsequently followed up for 6- 12 months. Patients were from the age range of 8 to 11 year old, and as a consequence of their TBI, suffered from sustained diffuse axonal injury, contusion, and hypoxic ischemic brain. Two patients necessitated surgical intervention, one patient complicated with cerebral empyema after the initial operation. Progression of the patient’s condition were well documented during the period of MLC901 and time after the usage of MLC901. Neurological improvement, mini mental state examination, and neuropsychological testing (WISC) were performed during the follow up. Results. Cognition and motor function improvements were observed after adding MLC901 to standard care. There were no reported side effects. Conclusion. MLC901 (NeuroAiDTM II) has a potential role in severe TBI in children.
