In the current work, we developed an affordable, simple pencil-based biosensor that uses hand sketching to build electrodes directly on paper. The 140-GSM sheet was used as a paper substrate for electrode design because it provides a good liquid-retained surface for the sensor. The electrode stencil was made using online art tool software and printed on a Xerox machine, allowing for exact measurement and the fabrication of the appropriate pencil electrode. Furthermore, a high graphite pencil was used to filling the Xerox machine-designed electrode blueprint, after which the pencil electrode was modified with ZnO-Nanorods, and the surface of the created pencil-based biosensor was characterised using a FE-SEM approach. The developed sensor efficiently detected lowest concentration of dengue virus antigen (DENV-Ag), i.e. 0.1 µg/mL, and the results were confirmed by a variety of electrochemical analytical methods, including CV and EIS. As a result, the study indicates that the pencil may be an excellent diagnostic tool for drawing, detecting, and do-it-yourself approaches since it is simple and affordable to create an electrode with sensitive detection of infectious diseases.
