Industry 4.0, Artificial Intelligence and the UN SDGs
Résumé fourni par la source
The convergence of Industry 4.0, edge computing and artificial intelligence (AI) creates an enormous potential for the manufacturing sector. In this era of the Internet of Things, 5G networks and connected devices, the adoption of edge AI by industries facilitates smart manufacturing. This chapter presents an overview of Industry 4.0 intelligence on the edge. The concepts of edge computing and AI relative to the fourth industrial revolution are summarised, and emphasis is placed on three industrial edge computing reference architectures, namely far-edge, edge computing and Industrial Internet Consortium. Use cases for industrial intelligence on the edge are highlighted in terms of smart manufacturing and greenhouse gas emissions. A framework for smart product classification is also proposed for classifying wine quality directly from the wine cask. The framework is evaluated using the Vinho Verde white wine dataset and the improved Scalable, Efficient and Fast classifieR (iSEFR) binary classifier on an Arduino Uno microcontroller. The results demonstrate an average accuracy of 89% with a precision of 87% and a recall of 91% in classifying the quality of wine in real time on the edge.
