Blockchain Technology Integration in Industry 4.0

This chapter aims to inform readers of the latest developments in the field of blockchain technology (BCT) and the potential for future blockchain (BC) integration into Industry 4.0. To facilitate smooth data sharing, BC can serve as a single platform for device interoperability and communication. BC has found successful use because of its decentralized trust-building capabilities in various industries. From industrial application perspectives, smart factories, smart products, supply chains and smart solutions are some of the quality drivers and enablers that have been applied to develop BCT for their specific services. Industry 4.0 is the first great transformation that has progressed from a technology focused to an advanced one and which relies on different cornerstones including the openness of knowledge, assistance and interconnections. Industry 4.0 technologies provide a critical perspective for future innovation and business growth. Potential solutions are based on advanced digital services and technological advancement with the fusion of 5G (mobile network), Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, cloud computing and BC. Each of these technologies is coming forward with new engineering challenges in understanding the requirements. The best method to integrate Industry 4.0 with emerging technologies is to perform more research, which will require increased efforts in technology integration.
