Le résumé fourni par la source
Although consumption has increased over time, crack cocaine is still not among the most consumed drugs in Brazil. However, it is the illicit drug that leads most to hospitalization and treatment demand, with a significant financial burden on the Brazilian government. And yet, this situation tends to worsen with the fact that a significant percentage of crack cocaine users relapse after treatment. However, a negligible part of these individuals remains abstinent. This study aimed to identify the main characteristics that protect them from relapse in the first six months after treatment. A sample of 700 participants answered a questionnaire with sociodemographic data, history and reasons for use and relapse, treatment, and addiction levels. An observational, cross-sectional study was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistics. The protective factors were being single with a steady partner, being Catholic, not living in the streets or “Cracolandia”, not developing binge or addiction, not staying abstinent for more extended periods (more than 10 days), and drug late onset. Not being abstinent for long periods is a protective factor for relapse that deserves attention, considering that Brazilian drug policy focuses on abstinence.
