Facial Asymmetry and Superior Oblique Tendon Laxity in Superior Oblique Palsy

Facial asymmetry has been noted in congenital muscular torticollis [ 1-6 ] and ocular torticollis due to unilateral superior oblique palsy (SOP) [ 7 , 8 ]. The facial asymmetry found in patients with SOP is manifested by midfacial hemihypoplasia with the mouth slanted and the nose often deviated toward the hypoplastic side. Facial asymmetry, when present in a patient with a SOP, is thought to indicate chronicity, with onset before skeletal maturation.
