Distribution networks (DNs) with the multiple microgrids (MGs) are becoming increasingly common. However, the transmission of MGs is relatively complex and expensive. As a multi-port device, the energy router (ER) can control power transmission. Thus, this paper proposes a hierarchical optimization strategy for the management of ER-controlled multiple MGs in the DN. On the one hand, a structure of multiple MGs in the DN is established, based on the structure and functions of the ER, laying the structural foundation for the following. On the other hand, a hierarchical operation optimization strategy is proposed to minimize power losses and maximize economic benefits. In the energy optimization of the ER, the Alternative Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) is used to determine the optimal operating state of each MG at the port in a distributed manner. Finally, an improved IEEE-33 system is utilized for numerical simulation. The results demonstrate that this strategy can improve the performance in the DN, reduce the total operating costs of multiple MGs, and fully capitalize on the benefits of multiple MGs resources.
