Le résumé fourni par la source

Owing to the advancements in technology, the field of prostheses has come a long way since the first prosthetic device was developed. Now, it is possible to substitute the working of complex internal organs like the heart, eyes and kidneys along with external organs (body parts) using prostheses. In the case of eyes, the current solutions in prostheses focus on correcting only the image formation on the retina (or substituting any other part of the eyeballs and optic path), but do not consider the underlying process of image formation in the brain. This chapter puts forth the idea of bypassing the entire optical pathway between the eye and the striate cortex and proposes to form the image directly on the surface of the primary visual cortex of the brain, using visual data obtained through information gathered from internet of things (IoT)-based tactile sensors, using artificial intelligence-based models. This proposed technology is called Image Projection on Visual Cortex (IPVC). IPVC can be extremely useful for visually impaired people, and also in robotic vision, particularly where the primary instrument of vision has been damaged, and areas where vision is impaired (here touch data can be used to approximate the surrounding environment), particularly in exploration processes. Thus, IPVC will largely help humanity to evolve by providing newer and safer ways for humans to explore the world. IPVC will make use of leading technologies like IoT sensors, which will tremendously increase the efficiency of the technique. IPVC will largely benefit further research in the field of computer vision and overall understanding of the working of the brain, which will in turn benefit society and mankind. IPVC technique is sustainable, and with further improvements, will surely enhance the knowledge of working of the brain, and will have a huge impact on the field of medical sciences.
