Skin diseases provide serious risks to the health and wellbeing of the general population, ranging from dermatitis to illnesses linked to aging. Exploiting the potential of natural and plant-based antioxidants as therapeutic agents to treat a range of skin conditions has gained popularity in recent years. The wide range of naturally occurring and plant-derived antioxidants, their modes of action, and their effectiveness in reducing oxidative stress-related skin conditions are all examined in this comprehensive study. The findings gathered from numerous studies, including in vitro , in vivo , and clinical trials, provide a comprehensive grasp of the function of natural antioxidants in enhancing skin health. A detailed discussion has been held on the sources of natural antioxidants, with a focus on the abundance of phytochemicals present in fruits, vegetables, herbs, and other botanical extracts. The antioxidant potential of well-known compounds such as polyphenols, flavonoids, carotenoids, and vitamins is discussed, along with their mechanisms of action in combating oxidative stress in skin cells. A substantial portion of the chapter is dedicated to examining the impact of natural antioxidants on specific skin disorders. The role of these compounds in alleviating symptoms associated with dermatitis, psoriasis, acne, and photoaging is meticulously explored, drawing insights from both preclinical and clinical studies. Furthermore, the chapter addresses the challenges associated with the use of natural antioxidants, including issues of stability, bioavailability, and formulation. Strategies to enhance the efficacy of these antioxidants through innovative delivery systems and combination therapies are explored, highlighting recent advancements in the field. The chapter also discusses the importance of sustainable and ethically sourced natural ingredients in the cosmetic and skincare industry. It sheds light on emerging trends in plant-based skincare formulations, emphasizing the shift towards eco-friendly and cruelty-free products. In conclusion, this chapter provides a valuable synthesis of the current knowledge on natural and plant-based antioxidants in the context of skin disorders. It not only underscores the therapeutic potential of these compounds but also identifies avenues for future research and development in the pursuit of safe and effective natural skincare solutions.
