Use of Biodegradable Fibers over Synthetic Fibers
Résumé fourni par la source
Biodegradable fibers are the best substitute for synthetic fibers owing to their compostable and eco-friendly characteristics. A significant amount of work has been done to enhance and use the properties of biodegradable fibers in a positive way to make a way for sustainable development. The various natural and synthetic polymers with biodegradability properties are used in numerous industries such as biomedical, textile, packaging, construction material, etc., proving their potential to replace synthetic fibers. Also, the properties like antimicrobial, recyclable, lightweight, self-extinguishable, biocompatible, durable, and green production have increased the utilisation of biodegradable fibers. Reinforcement of two to three fibers can bring about an excellent product with better properties of many fibers incorporated into one composite. In this chapter, we have discussed the commonly used biodegradable fibers, followed by their synthesis, advantages over synthetic fibers, and their applications.
