The first few days of class establish the tone, norms, and expectations for students. You can help alleviate student uncertainty and anxiety by sending a message to students through their learning management system before classes begin that is informative and sets a tone of approachability and welcome. You need to be aware of the importance of creating a class atmosphere of belongingness, trust, and psychological safety for all students.
