Le résumé fourni par la source

For more than two decades the antitumor activity of different spices has been thoroughly researched. The antitumor activity of spices follows unique pathways. Vast scientific evidence has been accumulated and reported that many of these spices are either antioxidants or pro-oxidant. The spice compounds share a common origin based on the family, genus, and species of the plant. To understand the efficacy of each spice the major ingredient needs to be isolated to identify the specific pathway of cell proliferation. Angiogenesis is a multistep process that exhibits deregulation of more than one cellular signaling pathway. Cell lines and animal model studies in the last 20 years have revealed that active bioactive compounds of spices like capsaicin, curcumin, trans-anethole, allicin, diosgenin, catechins, and lignans provide significant protection against cancer. This chapter will discuss the antitumor activities of some widely used spices, some minor spices, and their ingredients that have been scientifically reported in the last decade. The active pathways will be demonstrated under each to elucidate the tumor inhibition pathway and to understand the efficacy of each ingredient of the spices.
