Leticia de Oliveira — a voice against gender-biased research opportunities

Twelve miles from downtown Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on the other side of a bay, the Fluminense Federal University is located. Dr Leticia de Oliveira works there. She is a full professor and researcher at the Biomedical Institute and the head of the Behavioral Neurophysiology Laboratory (LabNec). She teaches at the postgraduate program in Biomedical Sciences and is an advisor to master's and doctoral students. Her responsibilities do not finish there. “I am part of the gender equity committee at my university, and involved in the Parent in Science movement, which discusses the impact of motherhood on scientists' careers”, she says.
