S1677 Analysis of the Gene Expression of NAFLD Biomarkers on Patients With Helicobacter pylori Infection.

Introduction: Helicobacter pylori [HP] infection stands as one of the main causes of gastritis and stomach cancer. However, it might be linked with other health conditions. Emerging evidence suggests that H. pylori infection may increase the risk for various other diseases, like non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Approximately 35%–40% of the population in the United States is infected with H. pylori, according to the Centers for Disease Control. However, in recent years, other sources have reported a higher prevalence of 50%. The objective of this study was to investigate the gene expression of NAFLD genetic biomarkers in patients with H. pylori infection. Methods: A list of NAFLD genetic biomarkers was obtained from databases published by Zhu M. and Dali-Youcef N. The H. pylori data was obtained from the GEO (GSE60427) (gastric ephitelium). The data was analyzed using the GEO2R tool doing a different analysis for the 2 types of samples (from Buthan and Dominican Republic). Four different groups were stablished for the analysis (negative HP, mild gastritis HP positive, severe gastritis HP positive, and HP-related intestinal metaplasia). Results: A total of 36 samples were included (16 in each group). The differential gene expression analysis showed that the gene UBD FBP2 was differentially expressed in Buthan samples and it is upregulated in all the cases (Figure 1). In patients with mild gastritis, the Log2 Fold Change (Log2FC) was 4.22, in patients with severe gastritis the Log2FC was 4.72, and in HP-related intestinal metaplasia the Log2FC was 3.71. In the case of the Dominican samples, CLEC7A gene was differentially expressed (Log2FC was= 1.11). Conclusion: NAFLD genetic biomarkers, specifically, UBD and CLEC7A were differentially expressed in patients with H. pylori infection which might indicate a correlation between both health conditions.Figure 1.: Volcan plot of NAFLD biomarkers on patients with Helicobacter pylori infection.
