45 Lipid modification follow up post myocardial infarction

Background The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and European Atherosclerosis Society identified strategies to manage dyslipidaemia to reduce cardiovascular risk, including for high risk patients (e.g. post myocardial infarction). They also advise monitoring response to lipid modification agent 6-weeks post initiation. NICE recommends measuring lipid profile for patients started on high-intensity statin 3-months post treatment, with the aim of >40% reduction in non-HDL cholesterol. Aim The main aim was to identify if patients‘ lipid profile post myocardial infarction are checked, and if follow-up check post 6-weeks and at 3-months of treatment occurred. Methods The audit was carried out retrospectively for all patients who had acute coronary syndrome at Tunbridge Wells Hospital between 9th of December 2022 and 30th of March 2023. Data collection was obtained via the ACS local list. Patients who passed away were excluded. Results Out of 50 ACS patients, 92% had their lipid profile checked, 92% were started on lipid lowering therapy but only 26% had follow up check at 6-weeks and 26% at 3-months. All follow ups were by GP and only 50% had documented cause for not starting therapy. Conclusion The audit showed that target for treatment were not met. In response, the Trust is establishing a dedicated pharmacy-led lipid clinic to follow up on ACS patients.
