This chapter uses common-pool resource (CPR) theory to explain how shared university spaces may be managed and how the idea of connectivity may offer insights into how effective learning takes place in them. However, there are substantial methodological difficulties in identifying the space-related factors that make for more effective learning. In the UK, these issues have also become bound up with the management of what has become known as the student experience, covering various aspects of student life beyond the strictly academic. A classification of space types is proposed, with suggestions of how the management of them might be undertaken.
