Résumé fourni par la source

Cancer is a serious ailment that impacts a vast number of individuals globally. Medical research has made substantial progress in cancer therapy throughout the years, providing optimism to patients and their families. Traditional approaches to cancer treatment have been extensively employed and have demonstrated encouraging outcomes in combating this lethal disease. For several decades, the available cancer treatment choices were limited to surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy, either as stand-alone treatments or in combination. However, there has been a significant improvement in our understanding of the various pathways involved in the progression of cancer therapy and how they can be specifically targeted. This progress has been achieved through the use of combinatorial strategies, which involve the simultaneous use of multiple targeted therapies or conventional chemotherapeutics like taxanes and platinum compounds. It has been discovered that these combinations have a synergistic effect, which means that their combined action is greater than the sum of their individual effects. This review will investigate the effectiveness of several traditional cancer treatment modalities and assess their influence on patients’ well-being. This chapter also highlights the drawbacks of conventional cancer treatment and the need of nanotechnology-related strategies to overcome the drawbacks associated with conventional cancer treatment.
