Leadership Styles for Influencing Change in Healthcare Systems
Résumé fourni par la source
Abstract Leadership in a health professions context refers to how individuals influence what happens next, using a combination of different approaches or styles depending on their own strengths and on the needs of the situation. This chapter offers the case of a new leader seeking to influence change in a clinical unit’s existing culture and climate to explore the following questions: How is leadership defined in a health professions context? What leadership style would be most effective for an individual taking on a new responsibility in a new institution? What leadership styles promote learning and professional development? What leadership behaviors contribute to increasing/decreasing psychological safety among diverse members of a healthcare team? How might a physician leader’s perceptions of a preferred leadership style differ if this leader experiences one or more social identities (e.g., race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, nationality) historically marginalized in healthcare settings?
