This paper investigates a digital signature-based attack detection approach and applies it to a DC motor control system. For this purpose, the elliptic curves digital signature algorithm (ECDSA) is selected, as it can achieve a high level of security while using fewer bits than other digital signature approaches like Rivest-Shamir-Adleman (RSA) or discrete logarithm (DL). The curve SECP 256k1 can be used together with the Hash Function SHA-3 to obtain an output of 256 bits, ensuring collision security of 128 bits. The approach is validated by considering different scenarios in the DC motor control system during normal operation and under an attack. The proposed approach successfully detects the attack and activates the corresponding countermeasure.
