Salmonellosis
Résumé fourni par la source
Salmonella is a leading cause of food poisoning worldwide and is the most common zoonotic disease in adult goats. The primary source of infection is the intestinal tract of birds and other animals. Carriers act as a reservoir for the pathogen. Salmonella enterica and S. bongori are the two species that cause the infectious zoonotic disease salmonellosis. The disease is prevalent in a wide range globally, including India. It is transmitted mainly through contaminated food and characterized clinically by septicemia and enteritis, but it can also cause abortion, arthritis, respiratory disease, and meningitis. Diagnosis of salmonellosis is based on isolation of the pathogen from tissues obtained aseptically at necropsy or from animal feces, milk, blood, rectal swabs, or environmental samples. In animals and humans with septicemia, antibiotic therapy is warranted and should be based on susceptibility of the cultured bacteria. Every effort must be made to avoid introducing a Salmonella carrier that can be a source of infection to animals and humans.
