Introduction: Lychnis coronaria is a plant of Caryophyllaceae family, its raw material being used in folk medicine of many countries as anti-inflammatory, wound healing and anti-haemorrhoidal drug. Objective: The proposed research is devoted to study of fatty acid composition of Lychnis coronaria herb, leaves, flowers, stem and seeds. The raw material was collected in Kharkiv Region, Ukraine. Methods: Fatty acids were studied with the help of gas chromatography (GC) after their transformation to methyl esters. Results: The performed experiment showed that in all types of raw material under analysis unsaturated fatty acids prevailed quantitatively. Among unsaturated fatty acids linoleic acid dominated in herb, flowers, stems and seeds, whereas linolenic acid prevailed in leaves. Palmitic acid was predominant among saturated fatty acids in all types of Lychnis coronaria raw material. Conclusion: Thus, our research brings a substantial contribution in study of Lychnis coronaria raw material chemical composition, and the results obtained may be applied in the development of new medicines based on this plant.
