SU ÜRÜNLERİ ÜRETİMİ VE BALIK BİYOÇEŞİTLİLİĞİNİN DEĞİŞİMİ
Résumé fourni par la source
"Aquatic products have been used by mankind in various ways, particularly as food, since the beginning of human existence. In the past, aquatic products were acquired solely through hunting and primitive aquaculture methods. However, over the past few decades, aquaculture production has attempted to shift towards advanced fishing and aquaculture techniques to maintain natural stocks and promote biodiversity. Türkiye has immense aquaculture potential, boasting seas on three sides, kilometers of rivers in twenty-five river basins, and a vast number of lakes, artificial lakes, and ponds – a number which increases every day. In addition to its exceptional geographic features, Türkiye is situated in a region of significant biodiversity, with diverse climatic regions adding to its renowned variety. Anatolia has served as a refuge for numerous species during climatic changes in geological eras. It is situated in an area where three of the world’s biodiversity hotspots intersect. Our country is biogeographically home to freshwater fish species found throughout Europe, Asia, and Africa. Maintaining a delicate balance between utilizing fish as a food source and preserving biodiversity remains crucial. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) criteria, six freshwater fish species that are endemic to our country have gone extinct (EX) from the natural environment in the past 50 years. In the future, planning for aquaculture production should aim to increase the yield of aquaculture products while also preserving biodiversity by learning from past experiences."
