Abstract Introduction INAIL Research Centers in Monte Porzio Catone (MPC, Rome) and Lamezia Terme (LT, Catanzaro) are geographically different. An active collaboration was realized with ISAC-CNR-LT. Bridging the competences on occupational health and atmospheric monitoring we realized monitoring campaigns mainly aimed to find interaction between aerobiological, physical, chemical and meteorological parameters. Methods Airborne pollen grains were sampled in different areas, indoor and outdoor, using a Hirst-type volumetric sampler and a real-time sampler. The last one is also able to detect other aerobiological particles. Moreover, different meteorological parameters have been measured to evaluate correlation among them. Results Samplings were performed both on hourly and daily resolution. Data processing is ongoing and appropriate statistical analyses will be applied. Temperature (sample rate of 1 minutes), relative humidity (with the same rate), precipitation and wind speed will be the main parameters analysed in relation to aerobiological particles. Solar irradiance, ground-level O3, PMx, CO, NOx were also measured. Discussion The interactions of organic and inorganic air pollutants with weather parameters may contribute to worsen the respiratory symptoms due to allergy. Previous results of indoor aerobiological monitoring in MPC highlighted the importance of occupants and weather parameters on pollen. Outdoor monitoring extended to meteorological and chemical parameters was conducted in LT associated with real-time aerobiological evaluation. Conclusion Targeted monitoring campaigns will be planned in the same periods in MPC, LT and Sapienza University of Rome, representative of suburban, rural and urban areas respectively, aimed at highlighting the role of weather variables and chemical pollutants on aerobiological particles.
