This chapter presents the coming-into-being process of designing and making Lights of Innovation , a mixed-media installation recounting women&s;s history and exhibited at the National Trust at Cragside House in 2018. The design process is examined as positioned within a landscape shaped by narratives of English heritage, to inquire into how those narratives influence audiences’ expectations of encountering history in the public space of country houses and to establish the impact the multiple streams could have on the aesthetics and content of artistic interpretations. The chapter closes with considerations on how to continue driving the transformation of the cultural sector so that multiple histories are engaged with in various cultural venues.
