These defining features aim to address the complex challenges of urbanization, sustainability, and resilience. Concurrently, the concept of authenticity in urban development has gained prominence, emphasizing the preservation of historical, cultural, and social integrity amidst rapid urban transformation. This paper delves into the intricate relationship between the technological advancements inherent in smart cities and the preservation of urban authenticity. It explores how the deployment of smart technologies can potentially enhance or undermine the authentic character of urban spaces. Through a multidisciplinary approach, this study examines strategies for balancing innovation with the conservation of the unique identity of cities, ensuring that the evolution toward smart urban environments does not come at the cost of losing their soul.
