This concluding chapter brings together the contributions of individual chapters, the three component parts of the book, and the overall insights and messages of the whole book. Within the book, there is a consistent focus on ethics and citizenship in participation, co-design, arts-based, compassionate and mindful design interventions, concerns for evaluation, guidance and regulation for designs and designers, and an awareness of the important perspective of policy. From each part of the book, three key themes have been identified, and these are then compared and contrasted. In Part 1, the key themes are (1) the importance of the creative component in co-design, (2) appreciation of people&s;s co-production values and their understanding of wellbeing and (3) the ethics of collaboration. Key themes identified in Part 2 are (1) value-sensitive design, (2) culturally sensitive adaptation of interventions and (3) experience-rich evidence-based evaluation. In Part 3, the key themes are (1) integrating top-down and bottom-up perspectives, (2) policy for design for health and wellbeing and (3) experiential and value-based guidance and regulations. Throughout the book, there are numerous examples of creative and effective design practice in a range of settings from institutions such as hospitals to people&s;s own homes. The examples and the emergent themes in the book demonstrate powerfully the creative power of design, fuelled by its ability to support and embed cultural and ethical values through collaborative practice and experientially derived outcomes.
