Are There New Classes of Inflammatory Bowel Disease Therapies of Which I Should Be Aware?
Résumé fourni par la source
Until the 1990s, the treatment of pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) was largely dependent upon corticosteroids and sulfasalazine. As the efficacy of sulfasalazine was limited, particularly for patients with Crohn’s disease, long-term corticosteroid exposure was common resulting in hypertension, psychiatric difficulties, as well as other known corticosteroid side effects. Nutritional support was common either with nasogastric tube feedings or total parental nutrition. It was clear that patient quality of life was often poor.
