Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is one of the most successful procedures performed in modern orthopedics. 1 , 2 The long-term survivorship of contemporary implants is estimated to approach 96% to 99%. 3 , 4 One consequence of these impressive results is that the prevalence of THA in the United States continues to rise. A recent study estimates that the demand for THA will increase by over 150% during the next 2 decades due in large part to the steadily growing elderly population. 5
