The role of capsule endoscopy (CE) has expanded considerably in the evaluation and management of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). In conjunction with ileocolonoscopy (IC) and cross-sectional imaging (CTE/MRE), CE is a complementary tool for detecting and monitoring small bowel inflammation associated with Crohn disease (CD). It also has a potential role in the future, for colon evaluation in CD and ulcerative colitis (UC; Table 4-1 ).
