Although recently introduced to the field of radiation oncology, 3D printing has produced several significant innovations leading to improvements in personalization of treatment, accuracy of radiation dose delivery, and the efficiency of clinical processes. This chapter describes the development of 3D printed bolus as an example that has given rise to a shift in the clinic from manual and imprecise methods to automated and digital approaches. Clinical use cases are described in the treatment of skin and breast cancers. Current advantages and limitations of 3D printing in the clinic are described. Emerging applications are discussed, including modulated bolus to optimize the shape of dose distributions, 3D printing to incorporate shielding to improve the sparing of normal tissues, personalization of high dose rate brachytherapy applicators, design and manufacture of 3D printed patient immobilization, and incorporation of in vivo dosimeters within custom patient devices.
