The effects of drugs on the brain are often specific to different brain regions. Brain areas the control motor function or emotions are the primary target areas of psychoactive drugs. In Chapter 4 , the major anatomical parts and a review of spatial neuroanatomy are reviewed along with organization of the nervous system are discussed, as is the biobehavioral relationship between brain cortical, subcortical and structures (e.g., thalamus, hypothalamus, limbic system, basal ganglia, the pituitary and cranial nerves. This includes the central and peripheral nervous system and how these neuroanatomical structures or structures relate to behavior. The nervous system as the target of drugs is described as a prelude to the chapter that follows this topic in greater detail.
