Lessons from conducting mixed methods research prevalence studies: recommendations for overcoming the challenges of inconsistent reporting

Mixed Methods Research (MMR) prevalence studies are utilised in the MMR scholarly community to examine the frequency and quality of MMR studies being reported and published in a particular discipline or sub-discipline. This is usually done through a content analysis of published research in discipline-specific journals over a set range of time as determined by the researcher/s. This chapter draws on the experience of the research team authoring this chapter in undertaking MMR prevalence studies with particular reference to an MMR prevalence study in the field of health management. The chapter explores the methodological challenges in undertaking MMR prevalence studies by outlining common criticisms associated with articles failing to clearly outline the research design of reported MMR studies and/or clearly articulating the integration of the qualitative and quantitative data. We recommend applying quality frameworks such as GRAMMS and COREQ to assist business and management scholars in rigorously reporting MMR studies.
