Ethics in Health Promotion Research

This chapter discusses ethics as they are related to and applied within health promotion research. Starting with an examination of ethical principles as they apply to research studies, and comparing them to health promotion ethics, the chapter then considers a broad range of ethical issues for health promotion researchers. Ethical approval processes and general ethical principles are critically discussed, to make a case for using situated ethical practices. By exploring research studies that work with people, rather than data collection done on them, the links between health promotion as a discipline and research work that intends to effect social change is discussed.
