What Kinds of Patients Do Neuropsychologists See?
Le résumé fourni par la source
Neuropsychologists work with patient populations from infancy to end-of-life, with conditions that affect the brain. These can include developmental problems, injuries, medical or psychiatric illnesses, and/or addictions. Sometimes a patient may have more than one of these conditions, and the neuropsychologist may have to “tease out” the cause(s) and how to best address the problem, depending on why the person was referred for a neuropsychological assessment. Taken together, the specialty of neuropsychology allows much variety and flexibility according to what the professional’s interests are. This chapter describes many of the patient populations and diagnoses in which a neuropsychologist can specialize, organized by age group, and provides some cases to illustrate how the neuropsychologist would work with them.
