The Toronto Green Infrastructure Youth Hackathon

In 2016, Toronto Metropolitan University partnered with the City of Toronto to organize a “hackathon” that brought together university students from across the province to develop proposals for integrating green infrastructure into Toronto&s;s public realm. This chapter details the hackathon planning process and highlights the challenges and benefits of facilitating collaboration across multiple sectors and disciplines to ensure alignment with student learning objectives, university outreach priorities, and municipal policy-making and engagement efforts. This chapter provides a case study of a university-community partnership that presents unique particularities based on the involvement of a large number of stakeholders and participants from academia, government, and industry.
