We thank Aaron F Bochner and colleagues1 for their important assessment of the 7-1-7 target for detection, notification, and response to public health threats in Brazil, Ethiopia, Liberia, Nigeria, and Uganda. The findings highlight the value of this framework for assessing the timeliness of response to public health events and identifying areas for improvement.
