Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a highly prevalent endocrine-metabolic disorder in early-to-late reproductively aged (18–44 years) women worldwide. It has reproductive, endocrine, metabolic, and psychological characteristics. Since there is no known cure for PCOS, treatment is still ineffective because it primarily relies on arbitrary empirical symptom management. The main diagnostic markers are polycystic ovarian morphology on an ultrasound scan, oligo/anovulation menstrual irregularities, and hyperandrogenism. Besides these significant diagnostic criteria, PCOS secondary symptoms include acne, hirsutism, obesity, hair loss, and depression. Long-term PCOS sufferers may develop type-II diabetes, heart disease, metabolic issues, endometrial or ovarian cancer, and infertility. This chapter explores how active pharmacological substances from plants (chamomile, aloe vera, cinnamon, flaxseed, spearmint, and liquorice) can treat PCOS with numerous pharmacological advances which will reduce cysts, control the menstrual cycle, and relieve pain. Since it can treat irregular menstrual cycles and lower testosterone levels, its use in treating PCOS among Indians is expanding. Preclinical research is being done to determine how well these therapeutic molecules work in treating conditions such as inflammation, diabetes, hyperandrogenism, hyperlipidemia, cancer, and so on. Recent research has concentrated on their antiestrogenic and antiandrogenic properties. Diabetes, insulin resistance, hyperlipidemia, hyperandrogenism, excess estrogen, infertility, cardiovascular disease, and endometrial cancer can all be reduced by these herbs, which can also reverse PCOS.
