This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. This book addresses the issues of health and health-related quality of life of adolescents with an intellectual or physical disability and those with other developmental disabilities, in particular fetal alcohol spectrum disorder. It focuses on the meaning of personal and social resources in maintaining healt. Therefore, health-related quality of life and their determinants in the aforementioned groups are analysed using a dyadic approach in which the parental perspective is also taken into account. The juxtaposed perceptions of both adolescents and parents provides many interesting grounds for discussions aimed at an understanding of health-related quality of life. The pandemic has significantly influenced mental health and quality of life, especially in vulnerable populations, like adolescents with disabilities. The book contents encompass a wide range of related topics, presenting the complex context in which health-related quality of life is viewed by youth with disabilities.
