Le résumé fourni par la source
The epidemic of Chronic Kidney Disease of Unknown Etiology (CKDu) contributes significantly to the morbidity and mortality of populations around the globe, particularly in the countries in the tropical belt, such as Sri Lanka, India, Egypt, and Central America. The disease is reported in geographically disparate regions in those countries and is found to be more prevalent among agricultural communities with low socioeconomic status. CKDu is not associated with any known risk factors, including diabetes mellitus, hypertension, infections, snakebite, or urological diseases, and signifies unique features of asymptomatic nephropathy. The suggested causative factors are mostly focused on the environmental toxin-induced proximal tubular nephropathy. However, the performed studies are inconclusive and exact etiopathogenesis is yet to be unveiled. This section will provide an improved understanding of the potential causative factors associated with the disease by analyzing and comparing studies from Sri Lanka.
