Peer Support and its’ Influence on Academic Engagement among Nursing Students

Background: Faculty students as a part of the community has a dual role as young people.Peer support is a concept that focused on person's positive psychological condition which has a great impact in young people as nursing students' academic performance, achievement and engagement.Aim of the study: To assess the influence of peer support on academic engagement among nursing students.Research design: A descriptive correlational design was used to carry out this study.Setting: The study was conducted at Faculty of Nursing Ain Shams University.Subjects: 267 nursing students from first and fourth academic years through the academic year (2022)(2023).Tools: Data were collected by using peer support questionnaire (PSQ) and academic engagement scale Results: Half of first year nursing students had low perception level of peer support while the majority of fourth year nursing students had high perception level.Also, nearly half of first-year nursing students had a low academic engagement level while the majority of fourth year nursing students had a high level.Conclusion: There was a highly statistically significant influence of peer support on academic engagement among nursing students.Recommendations: Provide supportive and positive academic environment for nursing students, building mutual relationships between faculty members and their students to enhance students sharing in youth care activities.
