Understanding the common laboratory features of COVID-19 and their relationship to clinical severity as well as radiological severity, could be very useful for clinicians and could help predict the pattern of disease progression. Aim: of the study was to evaluate the association of certain laboratory markers with oxygen saturation (SaO2) and radiological findings in hospitalized COVID-19 patients. Methods: Retrospective cohort study of 400 patients with COVID-19 at the University Hospital of Gabes. SaO2 and radiological findings were analyzed as dependent variables. laboratory markers were retrospectively obtained from medical records. Result: The sex ratio was 1,06. The severe damage on the chest CT was present in 40% of cases. Hypoxemia was noted in 78,5% of cases. Less than half of patients had hyperleukocytosis which was not significantly associated with hypoxemia (p=0,2), yet it was associated significantly with severe damage on chest CT (p=0,002). Among patients, 42,5% had neutrophilia and 14,2% had eosinophilia. Neutrophilia was associated with severe damage in CT and hypoxemia (p=0,02; p=0,03 respectively), on another side, eosinophilia was not a factor of severe damage on CT or hypoxemia (p=0,6; p=0,9 respectively). Anemia was noted in 41% of cases but was not a risk factor of severe damage or hypoxemia (p=0,3; p=0,2). Elevated D-dimer was found in 75,5% of cases, however, was associated with hypoxemia (p=0,003). A CRP level high than 100 mg/dl was associated with severe damage on CT scan and hypoxemia (p=7.10-6 ; p=2.10-6). Conclusion: Neutrophilia, D-dimer and CRP are predictors of the severity of COVID19 infection.
