Background: The operating theatre is a resource-intensive environment, generating significant amounts of waste which is often incorrectly sorted as hazardous or clinical waste.1 2 This has both financial and environmental implications.3 We carried out a study of the waste produced in our operating theatres to better understand the composition of waste produced and to identify opportunities for improved segregation and recycling.
